Windscreen Repair is a process of injecting resin into a damaged part of the windscreen called a chip. There are limitations on the size and area of the screen that a repair can be carried out on. How to identify whether your windscreen can be repaired When you sit in your vehicle and look straight ahead make 2 imaginary lines running from top to bottom of your windscreen one on each side of the steering wheel. This is the ( A ) zone and the repair size in this zone is 10mm or the size of a 5 pence piece.
On the passenger's side of the windscreen we can repair up to 40 mm or the size of a 2 pound coin. This is because this area is not direct line of vision for the driver and therefore repairs can be bigger than zone (A). On modern vehicles there is a black band that goes all the way around the windscreen. This is called the obscuration band. Repairs cannot be carried out in this band. A windscreen repair should take approximately 20 minutes and restores 100% strength back to your screen. It is also much cheaper than a full windscreen replacement and in most cases is free via your insurance policy.
